Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2011


Back to Bologna dedicated the award to memory of the beloved Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, which promotes children's literature internationally. The winner of the 2011

The Italian Coordination Support Afghan Women (CISDA) denounced the law promoted by the Council of Ministers of Afghanistan in January 2011 according to which within 45 days of its entry into force of the shelters for abused women will pass by the Afghan NGO management control of the Afghan Ministry of Women Affairs (MoWA).

La legge prevede inoltre la chiusura di alcuni rifugi, l’accompagnamento delle donne da parte di un mahram (parente maschio o marito), l’insegnamento della religione islamica e l’obbligo per le donne accolte di sottoporsi a costanti “esami medici” per il monitoraggio della loro attività sessuale. Il governo afferma che la gestione da parte del MoWA garantirà una migliore gestione dei fondi e una migliore scelta dello staff interno.

Riteniamo che questa misura sia stata presa solo per compiacere i fondamentalisti e i Taliban, con cui si sono avviate delle trattative; così, i rifugi sono stati accusati di essere case di prostituzione e si è scelto di tenerli sotto controllo.

Questo avrà conseguenze disastrose per le donne vittime di violenza:

• Nessun parente di sesso maschile, men che meno il marito, accompagnerà mai una donna maltrattata in un rifugio: nella maggior parte dei cases are themselves the architects of the violence from which women would escape.
• Rape in Afghanistan is a source of shame and rejection to the woman. If the medical examination proved that the woman was raped, once under the control of the government would pay the victim rather than accepted.
• If a woman flees a forced marriage because, once the refuge would be denounced by the government itself, because away from home is considered a crime.

• Nel gennaio 2007 il giornalista Parwez Kambashkh era stato condannato a morte da un tribunale di Balkh, dopo esser stato accusato di blasfemia a causa delle sue idee sulla parità dei diritti delle donne. Benché Parwez, a seguito delle pressioni internazionali, venne graziato, altre decine di giornalisti versano nelle medesime condizioni.
• Nel luglio 2006, il governo Karzai ha reintrodotto il “Ministero per il Vizio e Virtù”, tristemente noto già sotto il regime Taleban.
• Le organizzazioni afghane che si battono per i Diritti Umani denunciano inoltre le continue pressioni da parte del governo per legalizzare il sistema di “giustizia informale” (tribale) all’interno del quale è prevista la lapidazione delle donne.

Its atmosphere is unique, with a predilection for steampunk and warm and not overly saturated, often surreal.

Alessandro Gottardo illustrator is a graduate of our Institute for ten years, in a short time able to climb and reach the summit of the profession, winning many prestigious international awards.
This appointment will be able to relate their experiences and the path that he has presented his most important work, which signaled the most important milestones in his career as an illustrator, allowing him to reach the highest levels. Alessandro

"Nel paese dei mostri selvaggi" il design divenuto più celebre e distintivo di Sendak

Lo schiaccianoci

Ero molto combattuta se scrivere questo articolo inserendolo in Spazio Autori o Storia dell'Illustrazione.
 Maurice Sendak è infatti un personaggio leggendario nel settore dell'illustrazione; nato nel 1928 iniziò come illustratore per vetrine e poi libri e quando acquisì maggiore sicurezza divenne anche autore e in seguito decise di dedicarsi anche alle scenografie teatrali.
Insomma un eclettico al 100%.
Tra l'altro ha vinto nel '63 la Caldecott Medal, di cui avevamo parlato proprio nell'articolo dedicato a Randolph Caldecott , con il suo capolavoro "Nel paese dei mostri selvaggi" che lo consacrò come autore e illustratore di successo. In seguito ha vinto molti altri premi non da meno, tra cui l'Andersen sette anni più tardi e la National Medal of Arts nel 1996.
Di recente un progetto ha coinvolto diversi artisti per delle illustrazioni tributo.
Sendak ha avuto una vita controversa: di umili origini ed emigrante negli Stati Uniti (la sua famiglia era polacca e di origine ebraica) è divenuto illustratore anche per un sommarsi di fattori personali: si avvicinò all'illustrazione e ai libri per l'infanzia proprio quando passò molto tempo malato a letto per non affaticare il suo cuore.
Una sua citazione recita:

"Perché my needle is stuck in childhood do not know.
do not know. I suppose it's where my heart is. "

The practice of conscious meditation changes the brain structure in 8 weeks

Participate in a program of mindfulness meditation for eight weeks seems to make measurable changes in brain regions associated with memory, perception self, empathy and stress. In a study published in the Jan. 30 issue of the Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging, a team led by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) reports the results of the research, before certifying the changes over time of meditation on gray matter of brain.

"Although the practice of meditation is associated with a sense of tranquility and physical relaxation, practitioners have long argued that meditation can also produce cognitive and psychological benefits that persist throughout the day," says Sara Lazar , Ph.D., of the MGH Psychiatric Neuroimaging Research Program, senior author of the study. "This study shows that changes in brain structure may be the root cause of some of the best references and that the people feel better not only because they spend time relaxing."

Previous studies of Lazar's team and others had found differences structure in the brains of habitual meditation practitioners and individuals who had never practiced, looking at the thickening of the cortex in areas associated with attention and emotional integration. But those investigations could not prove that these differences were actually produced by meditation.

For this study, MR images were performed (MRI) of brain structure of 16 participants two weeks before and two after taking part in the Stress Reduction Program is aware of 8 weeks (MBSR) at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts.
